When a person has completed his/her skeletal growth and there is a large discrepancy in the jaw relationship (the size of the jaws), sometimes the only treatment option is a combination of orthodontics and a surgical procedure on one or both jaws to correct the problems. The orthodontist will move the teeth to their best positions in each jaw and the oral surgeon will surgically move the jaws so they are correctly aligned.
