Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Pain

Because adolescent patients are growing rapidly, pops, clicks and discomfort are sometimes felt in the TMJ while undergoing orthodontic treatment. These symptoms may even be found in growing adolescents that are not undergoing orthodontic treatment. Non-growing adults may also experience these symptoms.

These symptoms are usually transient because your teeth and jaw structures are moving into better alignment as your orthodontic treatment progresses. Please note, if the pain in your TMJ is persistent or severe, call Dr. Boyd. You may need to be seen for an extra visit.
