An archwire that is not attached to a bracket or band will not be moving the tooth as it should. A loose archwire may cause a sore spot in your cheek. If this occurs, cover the end of the archwire with orthodontic wax to keep your cheek more comfortable. Please refer to the topic, “Wax” in this Emergencies section of the Library for complete instructions on the use of wax. A loose archwire needs to be repaired.
