The first few days after you get your braces, you may feel discomfort or pain. Most patients prefer to eat a diet of softer foods for the first week of braces. Your teeth, lips, cheeks and tongue may be sore. Some people actually run a low fever for a day or two. If you are not allergic, take Ibuprofen tablets to help ease the discomfort. You will be given a pack of orthodontic wax at you braces appointment. Use the wax to ease the irritation of your cheeks or tongue. If you feel very strong pain or the discomfort lasts longer than you expected, refer to the web page on Emergencies, and call Dr. Boyd.
